            She cleared her throat and changed the subject. “You must have an opinion on who should be Svea’s king.”

            Silver-grey eyes pierced her. “Don’t have one. Don’t care.”

            She gasped, clutching the heavy pitcher with both hands.  “You don’t care? Have you no sense of loyalty? No sense to do what’s right?”

            Gunthar raised a finger. “I for one—”

            But Sestra raised a hand, stemming the younger man’s words.  She plopped on a chest angled toward Brand, and all of her faced him.

            “I can’t believe that.”

            He drained his cup, not looking at her.  “Believe it, sweetling, I’m loyal to me and me alone. Always have been.”
